Overlooked '74 show with a tremendous PITB
More people should know about this one. It's basically in the same league as shows like 5/25, 6/20, or 7/29, what I would call the "2nd tier" of great '74 shows, but is horribly under reviewed. GSET is awesome (if you can tune out some horrendous donna wails). The Playin and Eyes are both monsters too - especially Playin, which may be the best unsung version of the year. This version has an absolutley demented Tiger/Feedback section with Jerry and Phil going nuts. Not to mention it segues in and out of a beautiful Wharf Rat. The Scarlet and China>Rider are both very strong as well. Overall, this is a very good show worth adding to your collection.

Every '74 gets a five
Perhaps we're so relieved that the soundboard kicks in, we overrate the "Playin'" and what ensues. Nevertheless, a great piece of treasure.

It WAS Hot!
It's a pretty listenable audience tape, but the SBD of PITB > Wharf Rat > PITB you need to have in your collection. Never heard anything quite like it, totally unhinged. If nothing else, download that portion for it's uniqueness alone!
5 stars for the SBD.

Hotter than ...
Hot day at a Day on the Green. Had to move from the Green to the stands for some shade. The Dead, the Beach Boys, New Riders and Commander Cody. Beach Boys seemed out of place in this line up. However, they acquited themselves nicely. The Dead were on. Full house at the Oakland Coliseum. Typical early seventies set. Wall of Sound at a Day on the Green. It worked well, although on this recording, there is the same hiss and 'distanced' vocals as the Steal Your Face album. Even though this isn't representative of the Dead's best technical sound live,(see 9/28/75 for a great example of an 'intimate' sounding live show)this is a rockin' show. Keith is up front throough most of the mix, maybe because its an audience recording. Give it a three overall.

GET THE SDBD PORTION!
The sdbd portion is well worth downloading. 65 min of incredible jams. The Playin is COSMIC and the Eyes is no slouch either.
